Overview   Education Economic Opportunity Public Safety
During one of the country’s worst recessions, Governor de Jongh and Lt. Governor Francis have still created development for the Virgin Islands economy and made sure that economic growth means economic opportunity for Virgin Islanders. Administration initiatives and accomplishments include:
  
Improved airlift capacity at Henry E. Rohlsen Airport and increased tourism by bringing the cruise ships back to St. Croix
Helped to create and provide funding for tour excursions and taxis on St. Croix
Signed the Diageo/Captain Morgan and Fortune/Cruzan Rum agreements that will bring up to $200 million a year to our Territory
Secured funding for capital projects and initiated programs to keep our local contractors and our people working
Expanded hotel development with permitted approvals of William & Punch, Robins Bay, and Golden Resorts while moving the Island Crossing project forward to bring Home Depot to the island
Increased home ownership and affordable housing opportunities by creating more family housing units at Estate Bonne Esperance
Continuing to provide subsidies to ferry boat operators and identified federal funds for the acquisition of new ferry boats
Hired a principal planner for St. John
Secured funding for capital projects and initiated programs to keep our local contractors and our people working
Ensured development of key projects including parking at Enighed Pond, enhancements to Frank Powell Park, and rebuilding of the fish market ramp
Expanded home ownership and affordable housing opportunities by creating more family housing units at Calabash Boom and provided VIHFA funding for land acquisition
Increased airlift capacity at Cyril E. King Airpor
Celebrated St. Thomas as the first port of call for the world’s largest cruise ship - The Oasis of the Seas
Secured funding for capital projects and initiated programs to keep our local contractors and our people working
Addressed needed infrastructure and road improvement projects
Created home ownership and affordable housing opportunities with the return of 35 acres from HUD to local government and continuing support to VIHFA
