Former Virgin Islands First Lady Luz Luis Endorses Governor de Jongh and Lt. Governor Francis for Re-Election

Acknowledging that the Virgin Islands has had a true and dedicated leader for these past four years, former First Lady Luz Luis has endorsed the team of Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. and Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis for another four year term.

In a newspaper ad prepared for publication this weekend and in a series of radio ads airing through Election Day, Mrs. Luis said that Governor de Jongh and Lt. Governor Francis are doing an excellent job governing the Territory and because of their hard work our islands are faring well.” 

Mrs. Luis, who served as the territory’s first lady in the 1970’s and 80’s while her husband, Juan Francisco Luis, served two terms in office and completed the gubernatorial term of Cyril E. King, credited Governor de Jongh with taking measures to avert the negative impact of the recession. “The full force of the economic crisis...was lessened here at home because Governor de Jongh took timely measures to reduce the impact on the people of our Virgin Islands. This is leadership we can continue to count on.” 

Mrs. Luis added that, “John deJongh and Gregory Francis know the importance of working together as a team and share a vision of a safer and more prosperous Virgin Islands”

Mrs. Luis was also both mindful and appreciative of the efforts of First Lady Cecile de Jongh and wife of the lieutenant governor, Cheryl Francis. “These men also bring to us two ladies who are leaders, and equally committed to the goals of their husbands. Together Cecile and Cheryl have initiated programs to help our children, our youth and senior citizens which will bring about a better tomorrow and a greater sense of meaning and belonging among all the people of our beautiful Virgin Islands."

”John deJongh is a compassionate, kind, and decent man who is committed to serving our people,” Mrs. Luis concluded.

The endorsement by Mrs. Luis follows the endorsement Governor de Jongh and Lt. Governor Greg Francis received last week from President Barack Obama.

“Governor de Jongh...has charted a clear and definitive course for the Virgin Islands and has been working tirelessly to get us out of these troubled times. He is the right leader for our times,” she said.

Mrs. Luis’ endorsement ended with an appeal to all Virgin Islanders. “I ask you to please join me in voting for John P. de Jongh, Jr. and Gregory R. Francis on Election Day…Together for Tomorrow!”
